Confederate Impression Guidelines
1/15 Arkansas Infantry Regiment November, 1864
Headgear:
1. Civilian slouch hat. Edge of brim as well as hat bound with silk.
2. Kepi or cap. Jean, cassimere, satinette, tarred canvas or leather bill, leather sweatband.
Shirt:
1. CS Issue or Civilian type, osnaburg, wool flannel, cotton materials. No prints, with hand sewn button holes.
Jackets/Coats:
Jackets should be of jean, satinette, cassimere, etc. Hand top stitched, and must have hand sewn button holes.
1. Columbus Depot.
2. Atlanta Depot.
3. Milledgeville/Augusta Depot.
4. Department of Alabama Jacket
5. Plain, non-descript jacket.
6. Civilian Coat, Military Frock Coat (Limited Numbers)
Trousers:
1. Civilian Type. Natural earth tones, no loud colors, or plaids. Hand top-stitching, with hand-sewn button holes.
2. Military Issue. Identified style, stitching same as above.
Suspenders/Waisbelt:
1. Any type of period civilian model/pattern
Drawers:
1. An identified civilian or issue pattern with bone or wood buttons and hand sewn button holes.
G. Socks:
1. Wool or Cotton, Knitted variety
H. Shoes:
1. English shoes or boots. Military or civilian style.
2. CS Issue shoes.
3. Identified civilian boots.
4. Federal issue brogans, limited use.
2. Blankets, Tentage, Etc.
A. Blankets:
1. Civilian Blanket of proper materials, No synthetic blends.
2. British Issue Blanket (White, with or without “W/D” marking)
3. Brown or grey captured U. S. issue blankets
C. Gum Blankets/Ground Cloth:
1. Canvas, soaked in Linseed Oil.
2. CS oil cloth. Canvas with oil or enamel paint.
3. Captured Federal issue items. Very limited use.
3. Accoutrements
A. Haversacks:
1. Canvas bag of identified C. S. pattern. Button or buckle closure.
2. U.S. issue tarred type, with buckle and with inner bag. Very limited use.
B. Canteens:
1. Wooden type. Made of cedar/cypress/cherry wood, etc. Various styles.
2. Tin Drum. Various sizes and styles, try to find a common identified type.
3. U.S. issue bullseye or smoothside with or without jean/wool cover.
C. Knapsacks (optional)
1. Mexican War Style.
2. Imported English. Issue Campbell and Co. maker.
3. Confederate issue/manufacture of any of above styles.
4. U. S. Issue double bag. Limited use.
D. Cartridge boxes:
1. Any A.O.T. identified box.
2. Tarred canvas box, with or without sling.
3. Imported English box.
4. U.S. issue M 1855/61 box, no plate. Limited use.
E. Cap pouches:
1. Any A.O.T. identified pouch.
2. Tarred canvas A.O.T. pouch.
3. English Enfield pouch, white buff.
4. U. S. M 1850 pouch. Limited use.
5. U. S. shield front pouch. Limited use.
F. Bayonet Scabbard: (Bayonet should fit weapon chosen below)
1. Any identified A.O.T. frog and scabbard.
2. Imported English frog and scabbard.
3. U.S. regulation 7 or 8 rivet. Very limited use.
G. Waist belt:
1. Leather, any A.O.T. belt plate of buckle. Frame type, rectangular CSA, clipped corner CS, forked tongue, roller buckle and Georgia Frame are all common.
2. Tarred canvas with above plates.
3. Captured U.S. belt and plate. Very limited use.
4. Weapons (Repros with proper modifications highly encouraged. Originals must be in safe, working order)
A. P 1853 Enfield
B. M 1855 Springfield
C. M 1861 Springfield
D. Austrian Lorenz: 54 cal.
E. Belgian Conversion: 69 cal.
***No anachronisms-this includes modern eyeglasses, modern jewelry, wristwatches, etc. Smoking and tobacco use should be in period fashion only, such as plug tobacco and pipes (cigars are o.k. for officers). Cigarettes are not allowed.
